Review

The Long Musketeers

“...these amateur thespians deserve a lot of credit for tackling a complicated and intricate script, as do Doherty and Donnelly for pulling it together...The many strands of the tale do come together in the end, though - when they are woven into a dark conclusion that allows the best actors to shine.... All three of the Musketeers gave admiral performances - Jeff Smith as the rugged and good-humoured Porthos, Phil Blackmore as Aramis - the sensitive Musketeer, and Jonathan Denton, as the most complicated and fatherly of the trio. This was a production where a few of Saint John’s best known character actors stepped to the forefront. Perennial bad guy Robert McLardy was a stand-out... and Elizabeth Chase was his malevolent equal as Milady de Winter.”

Marni Weisz, Evening-Times Globe, May 22, 1998
