Review

Power Play
“It was a production that was a bit flat on the surface, but underneath provided plenty of rich soil in which to dig, muck and fester... Both Stephen Tobias as John the professor and Michelle Winters as Carol the student did admirable jobs tackling one of the most difficult playwrights working today...The set design by Brain Goodwin was a pleasant surprise. A few arched windows, four fluted columns, and the obligatory hardwood furniture evoked the solidity, and stability of the scholarly milieu”
Marni Weisz, Times Globe, February 27, 1998

The Top 10, Sort of... 1998

“ 4. Oleanna... No matter how good or bad this production turned out to be, kudos would have gone to the Saint John Theatre Company for staging a play they knew wouldn’t appeal to many Saint Johners. Turns out, it was a pretty good production of the story about questionable sexual harassment on a modern day campus. Stephen Tobias as John the professor, and Michelle Winters as Carol, the student were excellent. In fact my esteem for them grew ten-fold when I watched the film version of this combative David Mamet play. Even acclaimed actor William H. Macy had a tough time with the role of John, and the woman who played Carol was no better than Ms Winters, and perhaps not quite as good.”
Marni Weisz, Telegraph Journal, Dec 31, 1998
