Review
Theatre Co. breathes new life into Death
The Saint John Theatre Companys ambitious plan to create a long-term theatrical legacy in Saint John took a huge leap forward with its production of Death of a Salesman... Based on the quality of the SJTCs version of Arthur Millers masterpiece, the future looks very bright...Mr. Tobias, who directs the play took a tremendously difficult piece of theatre and took a big gamble. .. That confidence paid off... The director, knowing that the play hangs on Willy Lomans world-weary shoulders, brought his friend Bob Doherty to tackle the role... Mr. Doherty was more than up to the task, playing the complex character with delicacy and ferocity that made one fear for his health.... Fellow stage veteran Elizabeth Chase handled the role of Lomans long-suffering wife, Linda. Mrs. Chase was the embodiment of sympathetic grace...Biff (Brian Dobbelsteyn) is a former star athlete who becomes a petty thief and drifter. Dobbelsteyn handles the role admirably... Brian Goodwins set design was faithful to Mr. Millers script with a simple forties-style kitchen, upper bedroom and a lower bedroom set on a platform. A lampost was the only decoration for the outside scenes....
