Review

“Last night, the Saint John Theatre Company revived one of the great playwright’s comedies, Arms and the Man, with a professional polish that is often lacking in the community-based company’s productions. The sets were elegant, the costumes simply beautiful and the performances all above par under the direction of Stephen Tobias. The fact that the theatre company had to cobble this production together after losing two of its lead actors was undetectable last night. Mr. Tobias, who took over the role of Bluntchli six weeks ago after the original actor left for a better opportunity, was adept as the comic centre of the play. Ms. Leger, who stepped in just two weeks ago, was also smooth, although her delivery was a bit overwrought and lacked subtlty.”
