"In 1990 a group of dedicated individuals got together to form a company with one simple idea in mind: Saint John is a great city and, like every other great city, it deserves a great theatre company. A company that has developed from the ground up in response to tremendous community input over the years. A community-based semi-professional company built on the basic premise that “Community” refers to the community that makes up our audience as well as the incredible community of theatre practitioners that has evolved in Southern NB over the past 20 years. Since 1990, successive groups of individuals from throughout our community have worked to develop this great theatre company.
The thinking behind the company has been very simple: we develop and promote talent, we create increasingly sophisticated platforms to showcase that talent for the benefit of our audience, and we use our skills as a theatre organization to help make our community a better place to live. Our members don’t just entertain and educate our community, they are part of the community in which we live and work. This makes our Saint John Theatre Company quite unique in the region, and the continued growth and success of the company stems from that unique “built-in-Saint-John” approach that we have taken over the years.
- For our Southern New Brunswick audience: we are proud of the productions that we will offer you this season. From the traditional to the cutting edge; from the Main Stage to the Studio; from the acknowledged classics to the leading edge; we try to offer it all for your entertainment.
- For our amazing talent base in Southern NB: we are proud of the opportunities that are offered by this company. The staff, board and key company members work tirelessly to ensure that the company has the resources to produce our annual body of work and to ensure that the professional framework and training exists to fully support your work in those productions.
- To our community: we are proud of the work the company does to support literacy and education programs at the high-school and university level as well as the ongoing partnerships that we have with many worthy community based organizations in the Greater Saint John area.
Since 1990, the Saint John Theatre Company has been constantly evolving to become what it is today: one of the largest and most prolific theatre organizations in our region. The exciting part is that we are still very much a work in progress. In spite of the progress to date: the journey continues and we continue to look to the future for new opportunities. I invite you to participate in our work this season, and in seasons to come in order to share in that journey."
