SAINT JOHN THEATRE COMPANY SEARCHES FOR TINY TIM

While most of us are enjoying the last days of summer, Saint John Theatre Company begins auditions on Wednesday, September 14th for A Christmas Carol - its first production of the 2005-2006 season.

“We’re looking for a cast of over 30 adults and children,” says director, Bob Doherty.  There are male and female roles for all ages - from small roles to larger more demanding roles.   With so many opportunities on stage, this cast is going to have great fun being part of a seasonal favourite.”

Those fortunate to land a role will join Robert McLardy in the cast.  McLardy, a veteran SJTC actor currently living in Ottawa, will be returning to Saint John to play the role of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge.

Jacob Marley, Bob Cratchit, Mrs. Cratchit, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Mr. Fezziwig, and all of your other favourite Christmas Carol roles are up for grabs.

But Doherty is particularly on the hunt for a young boy to play the role of the unforgettable, Tiny Tim.  “I’ll be looking for a young boy approximately aged 7-10 years,” says Doherty.  “He should be small and slight, and certainly cute and appealing to the audience.  He will have to speak with a British accent, but I am prepared to work on that with the young actor.”

The production also requires a fiddler, a young boy who can sing, and a number of teenage girls and boys.  This will be a great first show for someone wanting to give acting a try,” says Doherty. “I would encourage anyone who always wanted to be on stage and, specifically on the wonderful stage at Imperial Theatre, to come to audition.”

All auditions will take place at the Saint John Theatre Company Loft located at the 4th floor of 86 Prince William Street.  Auditions for all adult roles will be held on Wednesday, September 14 at 7PM; Thursday, September 15 at 7PM; and Saturday, September 17 at 1PM.  Auditions for all children’s roles – including Tiny Tim – will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 12noon.

Those auditioning will be asked to read scenes from the script. The audition scenes are available on the Saint John Theatre Company website at www.saintjohntheatrecompany.com.  Any boys interested in auditioning for the role of the boy singer must come to the auditions prepared to sing a Christmas carol of their choice “a cappella”.
